Following the call to service on Martin Luther King Day, the youth from First United Methodist Church participated in the SEACAB (Southeast Arizona Clean and Beautiful) community cleanup day. SEACAB along with the Gila Valley Boys and Girls Club sponsored the event. The area chosen to be the project was the lot south of Walmart and east of Hoots Optical. It was decided in our youth group meeting last Sunday (1/7) that those who weren’t away for the weekend would participate. Three quarters of the youth that were there at the meeting came to clean. Our group included the youth group (jr/sr high school), Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Our church can be so proud of this group, because they really worked, never complained and enjoyed each others’ company. Some the boys challenged each other on the amount picked up. In just two hours, the complete group of volunteers made such a difference! After their hard week, they deserved lunch at McDonalds. They wore off lots of energy in the play place! Thanks to Heather Bull for helping to chaperone and participate in this event.
